The Enchanted Wood (The Faraway Tree) - Enid Blyton

I remember enjoying this is as a kid, but not too many books hold up on re-reading as an adult. This one certainly does! If you're someone who loves the escape that reading can provide, or have a child or student who loves the idea of heading off into a magical world, then this is a must-read.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. Huge nostalgia factor for me, but I think it's still definitely a must-read for children now as well!

Age Suggestion: 6+. I think it's important to note that this is really broken down into lots of different smaller stories. While they do continue on from one another, it would be a great text to read together as a family, or a class read-aloud.

Ability Range: 7-8 year-old confident readers would enjoy this (although it is 200+ pages), and less confident 9+ readers. But the story is enjoyable for all ages and abilities.

Content Notes: It's no secret that there have been various name changes to make the book more PC. Whether or not you think it was necessary, it's nearly impossible to buy an edition featuring Dick, Fanny and Dame Slap. I don't think it takes away anything from the story itself, and stops many rounds of giggles!
